This week, I noticed I've had my hair out long enough so I decided to give it a break by installing a weave.
As I noted earlier in January, my hair seems to thrive and retain length better with weaves as against braid/twist extensions.
As always, I prepared my hair in advance.
On Friday evening, I washed my scalp with Aussie Moist shampoo (with my hair in twists) and conditioned my hair with Herbal Essence Hello Hydration conditioner.
I let my hair air dry and sprayed on a mix of Aloe Vera gel and 911 Emergency Hair Treatment Leave in Conditioner ( I saw this in a shop one day and decided to try it out! )
Then I put my hair in 6 big twists to stretch.
That night, I put on my satin bonnet and hit it....not really...I just went to sleep.
On Saturday morning, I treated my hair to hot oil conditioning.
I warmed up a mix of
olive oil,
coconut oil,
soya bean oil,
castor oil and
two drops of Rosemary essential oil.
I applied it to my sectioned hair, massaged it into my scalp in a circular motion, covered with a shower cap and started my weekend clean up.
More than an hour later, I rinsed my hair with cold water, had my bath and proceeded to lightly blow dry my hair on low heat.
I only wanted to stretch out my hair so it will be straight enough for the hair stylist (who is inexperienced when it comes to natural hair) to braid and install my weave with minimum breakage.
I used my fingers and my blow dryer to stretch my hair. No combs or comb attachments.
The weather was really humid so to prevent my hair from reverting, I made two large twists and wrapped a satin scarf. Then I hopped off to the salon with the weave I bought the day before while food shopping in the market.
The name of the weave is Noble Classic Water Wave in color 4.
I bought two. One 8" (N800) and the other 12"(N1000).
What I liked about the weave was the size and softness of the curls and the fact that it could be heat straightened too.
What I didn't like was the shine (a bit fake) and the perfect frizz free curls (which I remedied by finger combing and fluffing up a bit... there...much better).
Ah my hair stylist is learning! She didn't braid (cornrow) my hair too tight, she gently combed out my hair from tips to roots and she didn't sew in the weave too tight. I am happy!
She told me she had done the big chop too! I was pleasantly surprised when she took off her wig!
What a day!
Well here are some pictures of my new do! I posted them on instagram too.
