Hi people, what's been on? I hope everyone is healthy and free from Ebola. Y'all know the drill, stay safe!
Today, I'm going to review yet another leave in conditioner, Kinky Curly Knot Today. This leave in has been the holy grail of a lot of 'obodo oyibo' naturalistas and because there was enough reviews about it to help out any naturalista looking for products, I didn't see any need to add mine to the bunch.
That is until someone asked me how good it really was.
I told her it should be good since it has won many awards with regards to natural hair care. She was like yes she had read the reviews of naturals in America, Europe, Australia etc but how well did it work for Nigerian hair in Nigeria.
Together we decided to look for reviews by Nigerian naturals and despite the popularity of the product and how it was readily available in Cadabella Stores nationwide, we were only able to come up with one review by LoveIfeyinwa.
So relunctantly on my next shopping, I decided to grab this and a bottle of the Kinky Curly Come Clean Shampoo to try out. Did it live up to the hype???
Let's see....
Can't get that comb to glide through your hair? Well KNOT TODAY! This creamy herbal conditioner is enriched with botanical extracts and is designed to smooth the cuticle and to remove knots and snarls from thick curly hair.
MANUFACTURER
Kinky- Curly Hair Care LLC.
Beverly Hills CA, 90211.
On Thick Coarse Curls: Use a generous amount as a leave in and completely detangle before applying any Kinky Curly Styling Product.
On Loose Wavy Curls: Use a moderate amount as a rinse out or leave a little on the ends before applying Kinky Curly Styling products.
The shampoo is clear and thick too but I think too small to last. However since I shampoo once a month, it will definitely last longer than the leave in! As a rule, I try not to purchase products below 12oz for obvious reasons.
The shampoo wasn't fantastic in my opinion for the price and size. It was a bit too drying for my hair and this from someone who used Aussie Moist sulfate ahampoo. They did say it was clarifying so I can't complain.
I blotted off excess water (wouldn't want the leave in to be diluted), divided my hair into sections and applied a dollop of Kinky Curly Knot Today Leave In to each section of my hair.
Then I tried to finger detangle as usual and nope....the slip wasn't good enough for my fingers. I was expecting the slip of Aussie Moist Conditioner but it was like half of that but when I rubbed my palms together it was slippery. So obviously...fingers to hair equals less slip.
Then I decided to use a wide tooth comb as directed and the tangles literally melted! So I guess plastic on hair equals more slip than fingers on hair....so...okay.
Another thing I noticed was as the hair dried, the slip all but disappeared. I had to constantly rewet and reapply. By the time I was done with my whole head, half of the 8oz content was gone.
Kinky Curly....are you sure this is for Thick Coarse Curly hair?? It's like I'm using a sample!
I decided to try again a week later but this time I used Elucence Moisture Benefits shampoo and conditioned with Trader Joe's Nourish Spa Conditioner. After rinsing and blotting off excess water, I decided to try fingerdetangling with the Kinky Curly Knot Today and I saw the slip they were talking about!
....and off course I left it in...money must not waste.
I also like the fact that it absorbs well without mmanu mmanu....oiliness.
So, will I repurchase?
Ermmm...I think so ...I did repurchase...because you see...I've decided to go completely organic in my skin and hair care...and the fact that it doesn't contain any oil is a perfect base for future concotions.
I want to try out the KimmayTube Leave in and also maybe the Maximum Hydration Method.
I also like it in my hair when I go to braid. Enough slip so parting is painless.
Interested in trying it out, you can get it here
MY VERDICT
I'll rate it a 7/10 but if I find another oil free leave in conditioner in a bigger bottle...I won't repurchase.
So have you tried this? Do share!

SCENT
All I can say is I love it. Still can't figure out the fresh sweet scent but it reminds me of a good childhood memory I can't seem to recollect.I always take a long sniff before using it. It makes me feel good. It's not citrusy or vanilla-ly (my fave scents). It really doesn't smell like something you can eat. Someone should please bottle this scent!CONSISTENCY
Thick. A bit like watered down gel. Slippery to touch....so far so good.MY REVIEW.

Good to know how it went for you. Very informative review. This stuff really has rave reviews. Someday I'll try it
ReplyDeleteThanks dear and do try it! It seems to be very good for transitioning and even totally relaxed hair too.
DeleteThis is my absolute favorite leave in! I always mix up a batch of Kimmaytube leave in when I'm done washing my hair and it's never failed me. Everything nice and detangled with great slip
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your experience with it. Is the Kimmaytube leave in as good? I think I have everything to make it now but I won't mind a heads up o!
DeleteI use it for my daughter and it has good slip.
