 I understand that we all have different hairtypes and what may work on my hair may not work on another naturalista's hair.

By randomly selecting a reader with a different hairtype other than mine via this giveaway, we'll be able to make better decisions concerning trying out  new products.

The theme for this giveaway is Deep Conditioning. Deep conditioning is a very important step in maintaining moisture balance, protein balance, improving elasticity , reducing dryness, reducing breakage and growing our hair longer, stronger, softer and healthier.....can we hear the "boings" already??!!!

Hello people, what's been on this weekend? Hope you all had fun! I remember I promised to do  a series of posts on natural hair styles.
Well I've been inspired by a new naturalista, Yetunde to do a how to post on Bantu Knot (out).

When I was little, the bantu knot (though we called it okoso ) was one of my mum's go to styles to get our hair (my sisters and I)  out of our faces. She would first thread small sections of  hair then twist it round until our heads were covered with about 10 to 15 knots.

The love season is here again and if you're a bit like me, you're wondering what you are going to do with your hair.

So I'm here with a little pictorial on a style I feel most naturals should have in their styling repertoire.....THE CINNABUN.

This style doesn't discriminate with length unless you have a really teeny weeny fro. Once you've gotten the hang of it, you can get as creative as you want with placement and accessories.

If you're on Instagram, you'd have seen this pic! I did a side cinnabun (I placed it to look like a flower) with a roll and tuck side swoop.


Don't fret cinabun (or puffpuff as I fondly call it) can be done even with shorter hair. My sister who has the notorious 'in between length' natural hair agreed to be my natural hair model.

I'm still on the natural hair care starter series. I've shared
-simple haircare regimens for twa, medium length and long natural hair
- tips for solving major natural hair problems
- how to transition and help your significant other love your new look.

This time, I'll be sharing how to create a sleek look on your natural hair even if it is of the type 4 variety.

I'm personally not so big on creating a sleek look because I'm comfortable with the organic look of coils all round. Some people however prefer the clean sleek look and I do agree that it does make any natural hair style look pulled together.

I love to get sleek and smooth once in a while and I understand very well the struggle of laying those independent minded curls down.

So here's a little tutorial on how to get your edges smooth (without losing them in the process).

What you'll need.

- A strong hold alcohol free gel or edge control. Suggestions include Ecostyler Gel (Crystal or Olive seems to hold most textures down), Ampro Styling Gel, Organics Root Stimulator Loc and Twist Gel, Organics Root Stimulator Edge Control,  Creme of Nature Edge Control,  Keracare Edge Control etc.

- A soft bristle brush or toothbrush

- A scarf

- A spray bottle filled with clean water. If your hair is frizz prone, adding a tablespoon of Apple Cider Vinegar into your spray bottle can help smooth things down.

- Your fingers and some hair on your edges.
